Volcano Erupting!


The class had a lot of fun with their visit from Miss Leah this week.  Miss Leah visits twice a month from the Kendallville Public library.  She focuses Science or Social Studies.  This week the class found out what happens when you mix vinegar with baking soda!

Fall Festival

The class had rotations on Thursday during our Fall Festival!  This is a picture of one of the groups making and enjoying spider cookies!

Character Counts







The school focused on the pillar of "Caring" at the Character Counts convocation.  The school recognized Hunter and a kindergarten student who is also at Riley by wearing a bracelet to support them and to demonstrate "Caring".

The class is going to be College Bound on Tuesday, October 20th when the third graders take a field trip to The University of St. Francis!  The students will learn what it takes to be a college student, will tour the campus, and go to the planetarium!

No Reading Log

I will not be sending home a reading log this week since it is a short week.  However, there will be a short reading assignment each night.

Busy Week!

It has been a busy week with the Ronald McDonald bullying prevention program, Leah from the Kendallville library visited with the class and did some fun experiments with sound, and we had our first class store!  The class was able to spend their money that was earned for earning Class Dojo points for positive classroom behavior!

Reading

The class is working on character traits and comparing and contrasting the setting, characters, theme, and plot in stories!

Fables

The class is working hard on revising, editing, and publishing fables!  Each fable teaches a valuable moral or lesson!! Very creative!

Vision Screening

Third grade has vision screening on Tuesday, September 15th.

ISTEP April 27 - 30

The third grade will begin ISTEP testing on Monday, April 27th.  We will be testing April 27, 28, 29, and 30.  We will begin testing first thing each morning.  Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest each night and eats a healthy breakfast before coming to school.  Please talk to your child about the importance of this test and doing their personal best.

Each students is choosing a community and researching why it would be a nice place to live.  Then each student will be writing a persuasive paper on reasons why you would want to live there.  The class is very excited about their research!

We planted seeds on Wednesday of last week and the class continues to learn about the plant life cycle.

Having fun with Miss Leah from the Kendallville Public Library!  The students were making cars that would be powered by a balloon.  Very Creative!

Read Across America

We are celebrating Read Across America the week of March 16th.  Please let me know if you would be interested in volunteering to read a Dr. Seuss book to the class. Thanks!

Pennies for Patients

The school is collecting donations for "Pennies for Patients".  This is a great cause to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

IREAD

All third graders will be taking the IREAD test.  We will likely be testing on March 12th or 13th.  I will let you know for sure when we are given the testing schedule.  We are preparing in class for this test which is all multiple choice and is paper and pencil.  Look for more information in the newsletter.
